Updates updates and more updates

Hey Everyone,

So far we have finished up to episode 6 and now we are just going to do QC on each of them before they are released.

They won't be released till sometime next week. I might become MIA in the next couple of weeks because I will be training for a 200 km bike ride. Wish me luck ^_^ haha Anywho, I'm going to try and keep everyone up to date on what is happening with the subtitles from now on since I have access to internet at work now. hehehe

Please understand that this is a voluntary service and everyone who is involved with these subs have other commitments as well. We all thank you for your patience and I will post the links As soon as they come in.

SL 20 done to meju's translation.

meju has suggested that we continue to release in consecutive order, so the softsub for episode 20 is only in the "Release Ready" folder for access by our team members.

I'm working on completing SL 4, and cathycasi21 is working on completing SL 5.

Legal Streaming on "Drama Fever"

I was hoping that "Star's Lover" could be legally streamed with our softsubs on "Drama Fever":

"Drama Fever" is a new streaming site that is completely legal, because they have acquired the rights to stream the dramas from the legal license holders. It's a new site, a great site, a site by K-Drama Addicts for K-Drama Addicts. They are only able to serve the US at this time. Hopefully, they'll be able to stream to the entire world in the future.

"Star's Fever" is not one of the dramas they have acquired the rights to stream at this time. I'm hopeful that they'll be able to acquire to right in the near future. :)

Please check out the site. English Subs for the dramas they stream are provided by WITHS2. This is the only streaming site to stream using WITHS2 subs with full knowledge and support of our beloved WITHS2 fansub group.

meju has just joined the team as our Korean Translator.

meju will be working backward from the finale, as time allows.

meju is a fellow WITHS2 subber I've been working with on WITHS2 projects, and is coincidentally a distant relative of the SL male lead, Yoo Ji Tae.

Thanks to translations by icarus and spotchecks of those translations by doggiexbunnie, we have our first softsub release.

Release of only the first two softsubs at this point, but we already have the translations for the first 5 episodes. We hope everyone can enjoy the first two while we're working on the rest.

WITHS2 has declined to take on SL re-translation, because three new projects are being added on in the near future.

I'm still leery of releasing softsubs based on ViiKii translations without their explicit consent/permission. I've just heard that the admin for ViiKii resides in Korea... That's not much help, but I hope to get more info on her and get in contact with her directly.

Meanwhile, the softsubs for the entire series will be completed and ready for release. Translators for this project would be joyfully received. I have the Chinese-Subbed files for any Chinese translators willing to join in.

I'll follow up on milagirl's suggestion and get in contact with bimbibap.

A few more completed subtitles and I'll start requesting help from some of the translators with an established Fansub group for help.

If I'm not too busy, we'll have another 2 or 3 softsubs completed in a week.

Sorry it took so long.

I got a little discouraged with the non-progress in getting permission to release. KST is apparently not continuing the project.

Anyway, let's just continue and complete the SL Subbing project. I think we may be able to get some translators once most of the subs are done. We can just replace the current translation with new translations... and we can release then.

Permission For Release of softsubs.

It looks like ViiKii won't allow us to release SL softsubs based on ViiKii on-line subs.

I'm looking into getting permission from VietNamese subs creators for translating from their subs.

I can translate VietNamese into English fairly easily.

I've watched an episode with VietNamese hardsubbed, and found the translation to be pretty good, even poetic. It seems more accurate to the original Korean. Since VietNamese, Chinese, and Korean have a lot of similar concepts... I'm pretty sure I can produce a pretty good translation from the VietNamese subs, which were translated from Chinese subs.

EDIT:

I've sent a message to KST Fansub staff, offering to collaborate on creating subs. We've gotten further on our effort than they have, so perhaps a joint project can result in earlier release of both E-Subs and VN-Subs.

This is what I normally use. I like the features for precise timing such as the audio wave-form bar. Keyboard shortcuts makes it nice and fast. Once the "sub text" have been imported. the entire sub can be done without moving your hands away from the shortcut keys and the mouse.

We've completed half the subs for this drama.

The half-way point is a significant milestone. Congratulations to everyone for a job well done thus far. :o)

Getting ViiKii subs' Text

Simple way to get ViiKii subs' text without typing

1. Goto viikii website.
2. Select a segment of video to watch.
3. Click on the "Captions/Subtitle" tab to the right of the video.
4. Click on the "T" at the bottom right.
5. High-light and Copy all of the subs that are displayed and paste them into Notepad.
6. Replace blank lines with "?????" for the spots.
7. Remove the duplicate lines that have subtitle version numbers.

Voila... the segment text is ready to be saved and read into your subtitling software.

Star's Lover 09 Subtitle Done.

I took a little longer with this one.
Since we still don't have permission from ViiKii.
I took the liberty of doing more editing to tighten up some of the awkward language used.

I started using the top part of the screen to add explanatory notes for a few korean terms. In future episodes, I think we can just keep some of the personal titles and add notes on screen tops.

We've only kept "unni", "noona", and "oppa" so far. I think we can add more to the kept list with "halmoni", "ahjusssi", "ahjumma", and some other simple titles.

Status of communication with ViiKii

So far...

We've received communications from some ViiKii E-Subbers. All except one have given conditional permission.

Since we would need permission from all E-Subbers, it would be difficult. ViiKii E-Subbers are rotating in/out of the project on no particular schedule or set list of members.

We're attempting to contact the site administrator/owner, but are not having much luck with that.

Please be patient... We're hopeful that permission will eventually be given, since one of the site administrators had previously posted that they were looking into making the ViiKii Subs downloadable.

We've now completed 4 weeks' worth of softsubs.

We've also caught up with ViiKii again for all the completed E-Subbed episodes being streamed.

We're one week away from the half way point, for completion of softsubs for this excellent drama.

We've caught up with the SL E-Subs on ViiKii.

The softsubs are being shared with the ViiKii subbers through White Star. Hopefully, this will be an added factor to get permission for public release of the softsubs.

If I hadn't seen so many people abuse the good will of fansub groups by hard encoding their softsubs (which are legal) with video raws ( which is illegal in a number of countries) and posting them to streaming video sites, I might agree that downloading would be good. I've worked with several people on subs for Japanese vids who quit subbing completely because they were afraid of legal problems. I'm sure some of you know of a number of people who've gotten kicked off some sites because their subs were linked to raws, whose license holders objected. If selfish and inconsiderate people who want attention and don't mind getting it at the expense of subbers could magically disappear, I'd say , "by all means", but I'm not willing to face a multimillion dollar copyright infringement lawsuit, which is why I now work someplace where you CAN'T download the subs! I also wish I could download subs when the site is busy or it's late, but unless you can think of way where only trustworthy people could access downloading rights, I think you may drive some translators from this site.
